Nur's body in Dhaleshwari a ‘rumour’
The news that the body of Narayanganj city councillor Nur Hossain was floating in the Dhaleshwari river is a rumour, said the acting superintendent of police in Munshiganj.
Police searched the river last night with trawlers and found nothing, Jakir Hossain Majumder told our Munshiganj correspondent.
The law enforcers also conducted drives in adjacent Shitalakkhya and Meghna rivers in search of the body of the prime suspect in Narayanganj seven-murder, said Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station.
Nur was staying in Munshiganj while seven bodies were found in the Shitalakkhya river in Narayanganj, the OC also said.
Once the news broke out, Nur escaped using speedboat by Dhaleshwari and Meghna rivers, he added.
A group is trying to spread rumours to hamper the investigation into the abduction and killing of seven people including Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam, said another police official seeking anonymity.
If this group can be traced, it would be easier to arrest the main culprits, he added.
