Nur Hossain’s aide freed from Kolkata jail
The close aide of Narayanganj seven-murder prime suspect Nur Hossain, Sumon Khan, was released on bail from Kolkata’s Dumdum central jail Tuesday evening.
Sumon secured bail on August 18 but was not freed because the condition for his release was not fulfilled, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports on Wednesday.
The release order was executed last (Tuesday) evening after all relevant documents were submitted to the jail authorities, the Bangla daily reports quoting Sumon’s lawyer Anup Ghosh.
Earlier, Sumon’s lawyer moved to the Barasat District and Sessions Judge’s court for bail after the Barasat Chief Judicial Magistrate Madhumita Roy denied him three times.
Lawyers Tarak Chandra Das and Anup Ghosh argued that Sumon arrived in India with valid and legal documents. But Kolkata police falsely implicated him for illegal entry. They also added that police could not produce a charge sheet within 60 days of the arrest.
After a long hearing, Judge Amitav Chattopadhyay granted Sumon bail and set September 19 for next hearing in this case.
Meanwhile, another bail plea was filed for the other arrested aide of Nur Hossain, Ohidur Rahman, with the court of Judge Amitav. But, the plea was turned down.
However, Nur Hossain is yet to obtain an opportunity to plea for his bail.
Narayanganj Awami League leader Nur Hossain allegedly fled the country within two days of the abduction and gruesome killing of seven people including local panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar.
Nur, along with two of his aides, were later arrested in Kolkata on June 14 over charges of intrusion.
