The scrutiny of nomination papers of candidates for the chairman post of Fulgazi Upazila Parishad was held yesterday.
As many as ten candidates, including Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, local BNP leader and the main accused in upazila chairman Ekramul Haque murder case, submitted the nomination papers for contesting the by-polls slated for September 21.
After scrutiny, nominations of Minar and eight other candidates were found valid. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque, also the returning officer, announced the names of the valid candidates.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is September 7.
Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque, also the president of Awami League upazila unit, was shot and burnt to death in his car on May 20.
Rezaul Haque Jasim, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Feni Model Police Station against 30 to 35 people, including Minar.
On May 27, DB police arrested Minar, convenor of Feni district unit of Tanti Dal, from Kachukhet area near Dhaka Cantonment.
