No to BNP for Naryanganj rally again
Authorities in Narayanganj, for the second time, refused BNP to give permission to BNP for holding a rally to express solidarity with the people of the city and to console the family members of the abduction victims.
In a response to an application submitted today for holding the rally in Narayanganj city on May 14, Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan, told Taimur Alam Khondaker, district unit president of BNP, that law enforcers cannot provide support as they are busy with the on-going investigations.
The DC made the reply after he had a talk with the Superintendent of Police (SP), the BNP leader Taimur told The Daily Star this afternoon.
The BNP sought permission for holding the rally at Alauddin Khan Stadium in Nitaiganj area of the city, Taimur said.
The party will set its next course of action after a discussion with Khaleda Zia in this regard, the BNP leader said.
Meanwhile, Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) yesterday denied BNP permission to hold the rally.
“Considering the law and order situation in the city, we can’t give permission to any major party for holding a rally here,” NCC Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy told The Daily Star last night.
