No long route bus after 9pm
Transport owners will refrain from plying their buses on different long routes across the country after 9:00pm to avoid untoward incidents like arson and fire bomb attacks.
They would return to the previous schedule of the buses, if adequate security measures are beefed up at different risky points on the highways across the country, agreed the transport owners.
They reached the decision at a meeting with the home minister at his secretariat office in Dhaka this afternoon.
“We have decided not to ply buses on long routes after 9:00pm on security ground,” said Khandaker Enyetullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association.
“Buses are being torched in clandestine attacks at different points on the highways. It is impossible to ensure deployment of police forces throughout the highways. So we will not run our buses after 9:00pm for some days,” he added.
He also urged all transport owners across the country to reach their destinations before 9:00pm every day.
“We hope that the prevailing situation would calm down within two or four days and all kinds of vehicles will run on the streets following the previous schedule,” he added.
State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said overall security on the highway has already been ensured.
Untoward incidents like arson attacks were carried out at some places on the highways as roads remained empty at night. So, we have reached the decision,” he said.
“We will take measures identifying risky points on the highways so that vehicles can run whole day and night,” he added.
