Satkhira Jamaat men get AL certificate
The High Court on Wednesday summoned three Satkhira-based leaders of ruling Awami League (AL) for certifying three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir as AL men.
SM Shawkat Hossain, president of Satkhira Sadar upazila unit; Amarendra Nath Ghosh, general secretary of Jhaodanga union unit; and SM Rashedul Islam, general secretary of ward No. 9 of Satkhira Sadar upazila unit, will have to appear before the court on April 16 to explain the issuance of “fake certificates”.
The matter came to the court’s attention Wednesday when the three Jamaat-Shibir men—Shahidur Rahman Liton, Md Abu Sayeed and Md Sirajul Islam—appeared before a HC bench on Wednesday and appealed for bail in a case filed for attacking police and vandalising vehicles in Satkhira on February 12.
While Azizul Haque, a sub-inspector of Satkhira Sadar Police Station who filed the case, identified the three as Jamaat-Shibir men, the documents attached with the bail applications showed the three accused as ruling AL activists.
The certificates the three accused got from the locals AL leaders said the trio are involved in AL politics and believe in the ideology of Bangabandhu.
The HC bench also asked SI Haque to appear before it the same day.
On February 13, Haque filed the case against 300 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists, including Liton, Sayeed and Sirajul. Police arrested the three from the spot during a Jamaat demonstration.
