SAAD MUSA City Center
Saad Musa City Center is a new gigantic two-story building at Kuril, Bishwa Road. The first floor has a toy store with the hugest collection of American toys and the largest departmental store where you get EVERYTHING (even cars apparently)! Prices -- of local and imported products -- are reasonable.
The main attraction is the gaming zone (obviously) which has almost a hundred different kinds of games. Super Bikes 2 -- where you race each other with simulation bikes and feel like fly badasses -- is the most played game. Typhoon and the dance off games are also really popular among all age groups. Terminator Salvation is more popular than the movie ever got to be. The classic claw-crane game is extremely popular and a coin eater as it has a twist: instead of stuffed toys, they offer latest gadgets for the win, like iPhone 4s, Samsung SIIIs and PS3s; quite awesome really. One person won an iPhone, whereas, another had spent coins worth 5000 bucks but got nothing. The claw-cranes with stuffed toys also exist, but since gadgets are the new stuffed toys, not much crowd there. Famous classic games like Deal or No Deal and Spin N Win are also here. The sports-related games like basketball, air hockey, ice ball, pool tables are big hits.
All games require coins or tickets to play, and with 100 taka you get 4 coins and tickets. The pricing of games range from 1 coin to maximum of 10 coins per play. One disadvantage is that not all games are available at all times as their tickets run out and since tickets come from USA, some games are closed for days.
The food court is just one long counter in the gaming zone offering items ranging from fast food and Mexican to Italian and Chinese. Cozy-seating arrangements are laid out throughout the floor like mushrooms. The food got mixed review -- ranging from “alright”, “not good” and “quite good actually”. The prices are moderate -- steaks cost roughly Tk 800 each, a large pizza Tk 700, and appetizers such as soup and chicken wings cost about Tk 200. Most of the people say it is a good family place but for couples out-for-a-romantic-time, not so good, as kids are always running around like Storm Troopers.
The entire place is really vibrant. The service is excellent and fast. In addition there is a party hall where you get FREE CAKE (!!!) for birthday and 500 free tickets. There is a 500000 sq ft space for outdoor concert and a private karaoke room where you can sing out of tune and pretend to be Miley Cyrus for Tk 2000 per hour without bothering anybody. You can also have 3D movie experience, available at all open hours on request, and the ticket price is Tk 300 per person, but the movie collection is shamefully limited. The Center is open from 6 am till midnight, and there are no elevators so that anybody that feels lazy to take the stairs can spend the entire day here.
