Rivers run through Bangladesh like spider webs and the country is often known as the land of rivers. Also most of the areas of Bangladesh are rural areas. As rivers or some tributaries of rivers can be found in every rural area, the most important and traditional source of entertainment are boat races, locally known as Nouka Baich.
There aren't any restrictions about the kind of boats that can participate in such races except boats with engines. For the past few years in Moulvibazar district Nouka Baich has been held regularly in Kusiara River.
Nouka Baich held last Sunday saw a turn out of people far more than in the last two years. People came from far and wide to observe this grand event of Bengali culture.
At the competition organised by Rajnagor Upazila Parishad, Upazila Chairman Ahmed Billal distributed prizes. 1st prize went to Ponkhi Miah's boat while the 2nd prize went to Mitali Jubo Shongho.
