No agreement over Malaysian proposal for Padma bridge, Muhith says
Finance Minister AMA Muhith has denied that the government agreed to a Malaysian proposal on the construction of Padma bridge.
Kuala Lumpur reached an agreement with Dhaka on the Padma bridge, the Malaysian prime minister's special envoy S Samy Vellu told his country's news agency Bernama.
"They (Malaysian side) can say that, but we don't," Muhith told reporters after a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry at his office yesterday.
The government will finalise the financing and implementation schedule of the bridge project in 15-20 days, Muhith said. A decision about the Malaysian proposal will be taken at that time.
The Malaysian terms are difficult for Bangladesh, Muhith said. The government will first select a construction supervisor for of the bridge, he said.
