Mahmudur taken to hospital
The Dhaka Central Jail authorities sent Mahmudur Rahman, acting editor of Bangla daily Amar Desh, to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) as he became sick yesterday afternoon.
Forman Ali, senior superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail, said Mahmudur was sent to BSMMU around 5:00pm as he fell ill due to continuous fasting.
“He hardly took any food in jail. Except for that, he has no other physical complications,” the jail superintendent added.
Forman Ali said Mahmudur was sent to the hospital after a civil surgeon examined him yesterday and advised the jail authorities to send him to BSMMU.
Earlier on Wednesday, Mahmudur was sent to jail on completion of his seven-day remand in a case filed for publishing Skype conversations between Justice Md Nizamul Huq, then chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1, and Ahmed Ziauddin, an expatriate Bangladeshi legal expert.
He was arrested from his Karwan Bazar newspaper office on April 11 -- four months after he was sued over the Skype issue.
