Jamaat-e-Islami, a key partner in the BNP-led 18-party alliance, announced to arrange special prayers across the country on Friday seeking salvation of the souls of those 'killed by police and armed cadres of the ruling party men' in the last few days.

Another programme 'gayebana janaza' will be held under the banner of the alliance on Saturday in front of the BNP headquarters at the city's Nayapaltan.

Jamaat acting secretary general Rafiqul Islam Khan made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the BNP's standing committee will hold a meeting to fix the party's next course of action following Thursday's dawn-to-dusk countrywide strike.

The party observed the strike to protest the police attack on a protest rally organised in front of its Nayapaltan office on Wednesday.
