It's True!

Deep Purple's timeless classic “Smoke on the Water” refers to a Frank Zappa show in Montreux, Switzerland in 1971, where someone lit a flare gun and supposedly “burned the place to the ground”. Deep Purple had set up a camp adjacent to the place to record an album, with a mobile recording studio rented from The Rolling Stones (referred to in the song as “Rolling truck Stones thing”).
