Hot & Roll, located in Shimanto Square, Dhanmondi, Road 2, is brand new -- it's fresh and it is unique in every way whatsoever. They serve rolls, which look like giant ice-cream cones, with different fillings and each of them, absolutely lip smacking. There are savoury and sweet crispy rolls to give you a light snack and dessert together. The prices too are very reasonable, with the savoury rolls costing Tk 160 each and the sweet rolls costing Tk 150. The savoury fillings include chicken and cheese, curry chicken, pizza, double cheese onion, BBQ chicken, black pepper beef, Bolognese beef, satay cheese, tempura fish and tuna salad. The sweet fillings include strawberry and chocolate chip, apple cinnamon, banana chocolate, choconut, kaya and cheese, crunchy peanut and ice-cream.
The endless variety gives you the option to choose. Photos: Kazi Tahsin Agaz Apurbo
Hot & Roll is a Malaysian brand that Riadat Huda and his partner Shayla brought to Bangladesh and oh, what a brilliant plan it turned out to be. Just within two days of opening, the stall was swarming with people, young and old, just waiting to sink their teeth into the deliciousness served.
“Hot & Roll is brilliant! I have not eaten something this different in Bangladesh before. I tried their banana chocolate roll, and even though each roll is huge and very filling, I was craving for more the minute I was finished with one. I couldn't help myself and ordered a strawberry roll and it was just as good! The prices are very reasonable and affordable for all and I think Hot & Roll is a great addition to the revolution taking place in terms of fast food in Dhaka city,” says Shahnewaz Sadi, a student of University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh (ULAB) which is situated near Shimanto Square.
Along with students of ULAB, students of University of Asia Pacific, Stamford University, and Dhaka City College are always dropping by to try out the new stalls at the Square.
Starting off here in Shimanto Square, Hot & Roll plans on expanding their business and moving to other areas. “We are just looking for an area and a vacant space. We'd probably move to Banani soon.” says Riadat.
