Govt considers banning Jamaat: Dipu
The government is considering banning Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, for their terrorist and militant activities. Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said this while briefing foreign diplomats on the recent `violence and atrocities committed by Jamaat and their allies' at the ministry on Thursday evening.
She said: "The government is looking into the laws on banning the politics of Jamaat-Shibir and the matter is now under consideration of the government.”
“There have been strong demands from different quarters to ban the Jamaat and Shibir because of their terrorist and militant activities across the country." The foreign minister said the government was not thinking to call in army following the current violence.
She further said the government was also looking into whether there was any funding for the terror acts in the country.
