Fire kills 2 minor siblings
Two siblings were killed in a devastating fire that burnt to ashes at least 10 houses in Madaripur district yesterday.
In another fire, at least 25 shops and three houses were gutted in Brahmanbaria the same day.
A fire at Chhoto Kutubpur in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur killed Asif, 7, and Siddque, 2, sons of Hazrat Sardar, yesterday noon, reports our correspondent.
The fire originated at the kitchen of Hazrat. When it spread to the next house, the two minor boys took shelter under their bedstead, only to meet their sad end there.
The devastating fire destroyed at least nine other adjacent houses of Abul Bashar, Kuddus Sardar, Kalam Sardar and Nurul Islam Sardar.
Local people brought the fire under control in two hours of hectic efforts. Five people were injured while the fire damaged property worth Tk. 15 lakh, said the affected people.
In Brahmanbaria, another fire gutted 25 shops and three houses at Chandpur Bazar under Machhihata union of Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Fire service and civil defense office sources said, the fire originating at a shop, spread to 24 other shops and nearby three dwelling houses.
On information, four units from Brahmanbaria and Akhaura fire service stations rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze fighting for over one hour.
According to the owners, the fire gutted grocery, medicine, laundry, clothe, and garment shops.
They claimed that the fire destroyed property worth Tk 50 lakh.
