Dr Ghalib, two others aquitted of charges
Three accused in the case for killing a man by blasting a bomb at the venue of an open stage drama in Shahjahanpur upazila of the district in 2005 have been acquitted.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Abul Hasanat Md Abdul Wadud on Wednesday acquitted the three of the murder charge on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
The acquitted persons are Dr Mohammad Asadullah Al-Ghalib, ameer of Ahle Hadith Andolon Bangladesh and professor of Arabic department of Rajshahi University , Joynal Abedin, son of late Deraj Sarkar of Choksadu village under Gabtoli upazila of Bogra, and Shafique Ullah, son of late Azizullah of Courtpara under Bandar upazila of Narayangonj district.
On the night of January 15, 2005, a bomb went off at the venue of an open stage drama at Shah Rawshan Jalal High School ground in Luxmikola area, killing a man named Shafiqul Islam on the spot.
Victim's father Habibur Rahman of Luxmikola village filed a murder case with Shahjahanpur Police Station the following day. Soon after filing of the case, police arrested Shafique Ullah from Gabtoli upazila of Bogra.
After investigation, police pressed charges against Asadullah Al-Ghalib, Joynal Abedin, and Shafiq Ullah. Joynal is now in jail in another case while Ghalib was on bail granted by the High Court in the case.
