BNP to consider ‘proper’ talks proposal: Farroque
Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque
Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque said on Thursday that the BNP would consider sitting for a dialogue to resolve the ongoing unrest if the proposal comes from the government "in a proper way".
Farroque said this while talking to reporters at BNP's central office at Nayapaltan in the capital during a hartal being observed across the country at the call of the party and its allies.
The chief whip's comment came moments after Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said the ongoing crisis can only be resolved through talks with the opposition.
Ashraful said this after paying homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi on the occasion of the historic March 7.
Farroque further said the government has deployed armed law enforcers during Thursday's hartal to foil the opposition's anti-government movement.
But the government cannot control the movement in this way, he said.
