The BNP last night decided to enforce a nationwide daylong hartal next week protesting the “ban” on rallies in the capital for a month.
The date of the strike will be finalised within a day or two after considering the schedules of the O and A-level examinations.
The party's standing committee decided this at a meeting, with its Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair, said meeting sources.
Held at Khaleda's Gulshan office, the meeting also decided that she will visit different districts from next month to drum up public support against the government for its “anti-people activities.” The date of her trips would be finalised later.
"As the government has imposed a ban on rallies and meetings in the capital, we have decided to hold meetings at different districts," said a BNP standing committee member.
The main opposition party, said the sources, will hold a press conference today (Thursday) to announce the decisions of the meeting.
