DU student gets 1yr imprisonment for RU admission forgery

A Dhaka University student was given one-year imprisonment for appearing in the admission test at law faculty of Rajshahi University as a proxy yesterday.
On suspicion, the invigilators challenged Akhterul Islam, a fourth-year student of sociology at DU and he admitted that he sat for the test changing the photo of the real applicant Aninda Kumar Bardhan.
Akhterul said he was hired by Aninda for appearing the examination for him.
Tongi police divided over Yaba seizure

Tongi Model Police Station yesterday was divided over Yaba tablets seized from Keranirtek area of Tongi under Gazipur City Corporation.
Kazi Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of station, claimed on Tuesday Shah Alam, 26, of Uttara and Khokon Miah, 38, of Mymensingh, were arrested with 1,100 tablets.
However, Achinta Kumar Dey and Hasanuzzaman, sub-inspectors of the station who conducted the drive, had shown 1,000 tablets in the seizure list.
Those who conducted the drive might have hidden the rest 100 pieces, Ismail added.
One killed, 4 injured in altercation over road construction in Sreepur

A person died yesterday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after he was injured following an altercation in Madhkhula area of Sreepur municipality in Gazipur on Tuesday.
The deceased, Imran Hossain of the area, locked into an altercation with his brother Sultan Uddin over constructing a road and at one stage Sultan beat him up.
As Imran's family members came to his rescue, Sultan's sons Emon and Ripon attacked them with sharp weapons and sticks leaving Imran and four of his family injured.
Four workers sustain burns in Ctg glue factory explosion

An explosion injured four workers in a glue factory in Chittagong city's Kalurghat BSCIC industrial area yesterday morning.
Some chemicals they were mixing entered into an electric motor leading to the explosion at Resimax Industries Ltd.
Biddut Barua with 100 percent burns and Nipur Chowdhury and Nikhil Das with 60 percent were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where Babul Das took primary treatment.
They did not use safety equipment like helmet, gloves and dress, said a worker.
All of them were provided with those, claimed Manager Amal Dhar.
Two hanging bodies recovered in Savar

Police recovered the hanging bodies of two persons from different areas of Savar upazila, on the outskirts of the capital yesterday.
In Savar Bus stand area, the body of Shohidul Islam, 45, a businessman, was found at his business centre in the area.
He might have committed suicide three to four days ago. No injury mark was found as it was highly decomposed,” he said.
At Gendabor of Asulia, police recovered the body of Monirul Islam, 32, a garment worker of the area, from his house.
Quoting family members police said he might have committed suicide but the incident is mysterious.
Gold ornaments worth Tk 22 lakh seized at Ctg airport

Customs officials seized gold ornaments weighing 500 grams and worth Tk 22 lakh from a passenger for not paying duty at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong yesterday.
The officials however, did not detain Basu Das, 35, of Rangunia upazila, a passenger of Bangladesh Biman flight BG-046 that landed at 9:30am from Dubai.
According to Bangladesh circular, a passenger can bring up to 100 grams of gold ornament without duty fine.
