3 of a family killed in road accident
At least four people including three of a family were killed and another was injured yesterday in a head-on collision between a private car and a bus at Chunati of Lohagara Upazila in Chittagong.
The deceased are Khaleda Akhter, 60, her daughter Nishad Sharmin, 37, Nishad's four-month-old baby girl and car driver Mohammad Amin, 35.
Khaleda's husband Manjur Ahmed, 65, of Harinkhain village was injured in the accident.
Sujaul Haque, officer in-charge of Dohazari Highway Police Station, said a speeding Chittagong-bound bus of Hanif Enterprise collided head-on with a private car carrying Manjur and three of his family members at Chunati on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway at around 10:30am.
Khaleda and Nishad died on the spot while Manjur, Nishad's baby girl and car driver Amin were seriously injured.
The child and Amin succumbed to their wounds on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where Manjur is receiving treatment.
Police seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to escape, said the OC.
The process of filing a case was underway, he added.
