Gazi take no punitive action
Gazi Tank team management denied reports of stripping Mohammad Ashraful of captaincy following their shocking defeat against Mohammedan by 174 runs at the Fatullah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Rumours were flying high about Ashraful losing the captaincy and players being fined, due to their disconsolate performance on Tuesday.
"When a management forms a good team comprising of national players and other good players from the domestic circuit they aspire to win. No doubt we are shocked beyond our imagination but for the time being Ashraful will remain the skipper and we will not be fining any player either," Gazi Tank manager AKM Kamruzzaman told The Daily Star yesterday.
Gazi however has made one change to their team ahead of the Super League. Orissa batsman Niranjan Behera will be replaced by another Orissa player Pravanjan Mullick to strengthen the team's middle-order. Pravanjan is also the captain of Orissa in the Indian first-class competition, Ranji Trophy.
