The courtroom of an executive magistrate was ransacked following detention of a lawyer on Thursday.
As the lawyer engaged in exchange of hot words following disagreement with the magistrate over issuance of a warrant of arrest against seven of his clients, the magistrate ordered detention of the lawyer.
Later at an emergency meeting, the Lawyers' Association of Nilphamari demanded withdrawal of the magistrate.
Anjufar Rahman Prodhan of village Chilahati under Domar upazila filed a case against nine persons under Section 107 of Penal Code on February 4, court sources said. The magistrate's court asked all the accused to appear before court by February 26. Two of the accused, Hitler and Tofazzal appeared before the court and got bail.
As the court issued warrant of arrest against seven other accused their defendant lawyer disagreed and exchanged hot words with the magistrate. Then the magistrate ordered the lawyer's detention. His detention triggered commotion among lawyers.
The magistrate, however, ordered the lawyer's release before adjournment of the court that day.
As soon as the magistrate left the court, some people entered the courtroom and broke chairs, tables, glasses on the table and other things there.
