Harris, family sued for amassing wealth illegally
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a corruption case against Harris Chowdhury, political secretary to former prime minister Khaleda Zia, and nine others including his family members on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, the ACC yesterday filed a case against Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim, his wife Arjuda Karim and son Salman Karim for concealing information about their wealth.
ACC Deputy Director Jibon Krishna Roy filed the case against Harris and his family with Gulshan Police Station.
The case statement said Harris amassed wealth worth Tk 19.40 lakh illegally in connivance with the other accused.
The other accused are his wife Hosne Ara Chowdhury, son Naim Shafi Chowdhury, daughter Samira Tanjil, brother Selim Chowdhury, sister-in-law Jahanara Chowdhury, Akhlasur Nahar, Masum Ahmed, Mosharraf Hossain Thakur and Harris' private secretary Ziaul Islam.
Harris went into hiding soon after the present caretaker government launched crackdown on high-profile graft suspects.
Abdul Karim, ACC deputy director, filed the case against Obaidul and his family with Ramna Police Station
In the case, the ACC deputy director stated that Obaidul Karim, his wife and son did not mention their wealth worth over Tk 6.36 crore in the statement submitted to the commission.
