Kazi Faruque gets 277, 653 votes in two Khulna seats

Proshika chief Kazi Faruque Ahmed who heads his newly floated political party United Citizens Movement (UCM) has bagged only 277 out of 2,38,390 votes in Khulna-2 (Sadar-Sonadanga) and 653 out of 2,79,704 votes in Khulna-5 (Phultala-Dumuria) constituencies in Monday's parliamentary elections.
He contested from these two constituencies as candidate of his UCM after winning a legal battle with the Election Commission although Khulna returning officer had cancelled his nomination papers due to certain flaws.
He now loses his security deposit in both the seats.
As it appeared from their affidavits, Kazi Faruque is the richest among 32 candidates from six constituencies in Khulna district.
The lone NGO boss to contest from 10 districts in Khulna division, Kazi Faruque engaged over 5,000 field level workers, employees and officials of Proshika in addition to a large number of hired jobless youths for carrying out his polls campaign.
Midnight campaigns particularly targeting slum areas to lure poor voters with jobs in his NGO was part of his strategy while his workers reportedly offered money to voters during the move.
