Voter listing begins in Khulna city
Voter registration with photographs and preparation of national identity cards began in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) area yesterday with formal inauguration by colourful processions brought out from different areas under five police stations of the city.
City Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman led a colourful rally brought out from Shaheed Hadis Park at 9:00am. Local officials, members of the joint forces, NGO representatives, teachers and others joined the procession.
According to Khulna District Election office, 31 wards under the KCC have been divided into five groups and ward numbers 5,11,13,14,16 and 17 are in the "A" group.
Voter registration in these wards began yesterday and will continue until August 22. Registration of national identity cards in the six wards will begin on August 23 and continue until August 27.
As many as 165 registration centres have been set up in 31 wards where 1,605 enumerators, 321 supervisors, 35 assistant registration officers and 831 computer data entity operators will perform their duties.
Sources in the District Election office said Tk 35 lakh has been estimated as expenditure for voter registration with photograph and preparation of national identity cards.
City Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman has asked the ward commissioners to extend all-out cooperation to the army in voter registration and other election related work.
