Liakat freed on bail after 5 yrs in detention

Top criminal and Jubo League leader Liakat Hossain was released on bail on Thursday.
Liakat, one of the 23 listed criminals, was under detention for five years and granted bail in all the cases filed against him.
Jail sources said he was granted bail on Wednesday and released from Dhaka Central Jail Thursday noon, as the government did not extend his detention.
Police said Liakat was arrested in Dhanmondi area by the then Rapid Action team (Rat) on October 1, 2003. He is an accused in nine cases including for murder. Four general diaries were also filed against him.
Earlier on December 25 in 2001, the government declared Tk one lakh for information leading to his arrest.
After the caretaker government assumed power in 2001, Liakat fled to India. He was arrested there on November 19, 2002 and freed on bail from Indian jail.
Later, Liakat returned home and was arrested.
