Tarique's treatment
A lot is being written about Mr. Tarique Rahman, both in the media and on the Internet. There is no point in speculating upon how he received the injuries which are obvious from his appearances in court and through the remarks of his doctors. The fact seems to be that he is suffering.
Recently, in an article, a columnist suggested that sending him abroad might be unwise as he may be considered a "flight risk", in that he may choose to disappear. There is little question that Mr. Tarique Rahman has the funds to remain outside the country as long as he wishes.
If the medical treatment for back injuries is not adequate in this country, a fact to which I can personally attest, why can he not be sent abroad under custodial arrangements? He could be accompanied by a team of senior police officers whose conduct in the past has been above reproach, and he would not be permitted any freedom of movement or contact outside of his immediate medical institution and doctors. This will be a costly arrangement, but I can see no reason why the expenses should not be borne by his family, who are pressing hard for his treatment abroad.
At the conclusion of his treatment, he would be escorted back to Bangladesh by the police team, to continue his legal battles.
