Saudi BNP men, ex-JCD leaders emand release of Khaleda, sons
The Saudi Arabia-based BNP activists from Chandpur district yesterday demanded release of the detained ex-premiere Khaleda Zia and her ailing sons.
The leaders held a meeting at a restaurant in Riyadh where they criticised the government for delaying their release and demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged torture to Tarique Rahman.
A press statement received here in the city said the government should hold the national polls first instead of the local body elections.
Our DU correspondent reports: A total of 13 former leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) yesterday demanded immediate release of Khaleda Zia and her sons Tarique Rahman, Arafat Rahman Koko and all detained sick political leaders, says a press release.
In a joint statement the leaders expressing their deep concern over the past 16-months ruling of the present caretaker government said, "We are pleased that Awami League President Sheikh Hasina is being able to take treatment of her illness according to her will. We are astonished that the government is creating bar on Khaleda Zia and her sons' issue.”
They expressed hope that to return to democratic process the government will release Khaleda Zia and her detained sons soon.
They also demanded proper investigation on how Tarique's spinal cord was broken during detention.
Principal Enamul Kabir Shaheed, Dr AKM Golam Hossain, Shamsujjaman Dudu, Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon sent the statement.
