Killer gets life in Panchagarh
A Panchagarh court yesterday sentenced one person to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing an elderly man at Meherpara village in Sadar upazila in 1999.
The convict is Abdullah alias Babul,40, of Notunbosti village in Sadar upazila in Panchagarh.
Additional district and sessions judge Amulla Kumar Sarker handed down the verdict in a crowded courtroom. The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer two years more in jail.
According to prosecution, Abdullah and his accomplices went to Safat Ali's sesame crop field to cut crop by force on May 25, 1999. As Sefat resisted, they beat him up leaving him seriously injured. Later, he was rushed to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors advised to take him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) but he died on way to hospital.
Victim's nephew Jashim Uddin filed a murder case with Panchagarh police station accusing 12 persons.
