Injured Sri Lankan bank official dies
The Sri Lankan bank official, who was injured in the mysterious blast in the capital's Hotel Orchard Plaza on June 1, succumbed to his wounds yesterday raising the death toll in the explosion to three.
AR Samanthilake, 43, a high official of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, who arrived in the capital on May 30, died at 7:20am at the City Hospital.
Hospital sources said the Sri Lankan national had sustained burn injuries all over his body.
Earlier, Ali Azam, an executive of Hotel Orchard Plaza at Naya Paltan, died on June 2 at the City Hospital while Mir Hossain, a room-service attendant, died on June 4 at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The body of the Sri Lankan citizen was sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy yesterday.
The body has been kept at the Square Hospitals mortuary after autopsy and might be flown to Sri Lanka today, sources added.
Meantime, the three-member probe committee formed by the police quizzed two other Sri Lankan nationals who were with AR Samanthilake during the blast. The committee also questioned 12 employees of the hotel.
Talking to The Daily Star, one of the committee members said, “We are yet to reach any decision about the cause of the blast.”
Apart from the police, members of intelligence agencies are also investigating the blast.
