Ex-AL MP of Jessore held
Former Awami League lawmaker Ali Reza Raju was arrested at Birdem Hospital in the capital yesterday in connection with a corruption case filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The law enforcers from Jessore Kotwali Police Station with the help of Ramna police arrested Raju, also the president of AL district unit, at about 11:15am following a arrest warrant issued against him by a district court on June 1.
“Ali Reza Raju was arrested and kept under medical treatment under police custody,” Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Jessore Katwali Police Station, told the news agency over telephone.
Earlier on January 3, the ACC filed a case against Raju, the former lawmaker from Jessore-3 constituency, with Katwali Police Station on charges of amassing wealth worth Tk 38.08 lakh beyond his known sources of income and concealing information of assets worth Tk 8.33 lakh.
The case was filed under sections 26(2), 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 and section 15 of the Emergency Power Rules 2007.
