CU school students protest fee hike
Students of Chittagong University (CU) School and College yesterday staged a sit-in in front of Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) building on the university campus protesting the recent fee hike at the institution.
Earlier, the students brought out a procession from the school gate at around 9:15am. The procession paraded the university campus before gathering in front of the CUSCU building at around 10:00am.
CU Proctor Professor Jasim Uddin, the institution's Principal Kiran Chandra Dev and two syndicate members rushed to the spot and assured the students of considering the matter.
Later, the students came back to their school, said the sources.
Syndicate Member Mohammad Kamal Uddin said that they would discuss the matter in the next syndicate meeting and would try to reconsider it.
On Tuesday, the students kept the classrooms under lock and key for two hours. They previously submitted a memorandum to the principal in this regard on Saturday.
Sources said Chittagong University (CU) authorities increased fee for the students of the school and college for several times.
CU Syndicate approved the fee in its 449th general meeting held on February 16 following a recommendation of the university Finance Committee (FC), the sources added.
