Housewife kills herself
A woman killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan in the capital's Bashundhara Residential area on Saturday night allegedly following a quarrel with her husband.
Police recovered the body of Nur-e-Ara Ashrafi, 24, from Satkhira district, yesterday and has detained her husband Faysal Liakat for interrogation.
The couple lived at a rented flat situated at G-block in the area. Faysal was a student of a private university while his wife was studying at Jagannath University but both dropped out six months ago and became private tutors by profession, Zia-uz-Zaman, officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station, said.
Faysal went out for tuition on Saturday afternoon and found their bedroom locked after returning home at night, the OC said quoting the husband of the deceased.
After opening the door with a duplicate key he found Nur hanging from the ceiling and informed the police, the next morning.
Nur was suspecting illicit affair between Faysal and one of his female students. When she came to know of that student's visit to their home two days ago, argument flared up between them. Nur might have killed herself in a fit of passion, police said, quoting Faysal.
Police has been trying to contact the couple's family members to cross-check information. However, none could be reached. The people who Faysal called were all distant relatives or friends.
Police suspected that the couple was not married, as Faysal could not show any marriage documents.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy last night.
