NBR settles tax cases out of court, collects Tk 25cr
The National Board of Revenue has collected Tk 25 crore by settling tax related disputes -- involving Tk 87 crore -- out of court.
The figure was shared by the tax administrator at a programme at The Westin Dhaka yesterday.
The NBR collected the amount under a mechanism, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), launched in May this year to boost revenue collection and clear the backlogs of thousands of tax-related cases now pending at courts.
NBR Chairman Md Ghulam Hussain said the process of resolving tax-related cases through courts is lengthy.
Hussain said cases related to income tax were resolved faster through the ADR.
But the customs and VAT-related cases are yet to see any success, he added.
Revenue worth more than Tk 26,000 crore has been stuck for years due to non-settlement of cases related to income tax, VAT and
customs duty at courts, according to the NBR.
