Madrasa students see higher pass rate
This year's Ebtedai Certificate and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) Examinations saw an increase in both the pass rates and highest grade points achievers over the previous years.
In the Ebtedai exams, 92.45 percent students became successful which is a rise of 1.17 percentage points from last year, while the pass rate in the JDC exams is 90.87 percent, a rise of 2.16 percentage points.
According to the results published yesterday, 2,920 students achieved GPA-5 (grade point average) in the Ebtedai exams, a rise of 770 students.
Out of 3,29,000 registrants, a total of 2,76,373 class V madrasa students -- 1,29,818 boys and 1,46,555 girls -- took the Ebtedai exams. Girls' success rate (91.71 percent) is lower than boys (93.28 percent).
The number of students who obtained above GPA 4 is 39,634 while over 46,000 examinees secured GPA between 3.5 and 4.
This year, the number of unsuccessful students is 20,879, which was 23,737 last year.
Like the last two years, students of Barisal Division performed best with 96.73 percent pass rate, while Gopalganj has the lowest pass rate among the districts.
The number of GPA-5 achievers in the JDC exams increased by a large margin this year. Nearly 2,800 students secured GPA-5 against the last year's figure of 1014.
Over 3.34 lakh students took the JDC exams, while another 21,985 were absent.
Girls outnumbered boys (1.56 lakh girls against 1.47 lakh boys) in the success rate, but 1,741 male students achieved GPA-5 against 1,043 females.
Over 77,000 students scored between GPA-5 and GPA-4.
All the top three institutions under Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board are from the capital. Darunnazat Siddikia Kamil Madrasa in Demra topped the list of 20 best performers, followed by Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa in Jatrabari and Tanjimul Ummah Cadet Madrasa in Uttara.
The list of top 20 institutions is prepared following five criteria including the total number of candidates, successful examinees and GPA-5 achievers.
