League leaders Khulna raced to a formidable total at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium against Dhaka Metro on the first day of the fourth round of the National Cricket League (NCL). Mohammad Mithun's 120 was the highlight of the day as he anchored Khulna's innings. The game at the BKSP between Rajshahi and Chittagong also witnessed a century as Rajshahi batsman Jahurul Islam scored half the runs of his team, 118.
Rangpur rode on half-centuries from Sohrawardi Shuvo and Tarik Ahmed as they ended the day on 289 for 9 after electing to bat against Dhaka at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra. Away at the Abdur Rab Serniabad Stadium in Barisal, Sylhet struggled to 193 for eight against the hosts. Visiting opener Sayem Alam scored 82, his highest of the league so far, to guide his team.
A century from Mithun and half centuries from Anamul Haque and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza helped Khulna cross the 300 mark before the end of play. They finished the day on 355 for 9. Mashrafe smacked ten fours and a six on his return to the longer version of the game. Meanwhile, Anamul continued his good momentum to score a brisk 72. Metro's captain Mohammad Ashraful took three wickets and was
the leading wicket taker of the day.
There was nothing much to talk about Rajshahi's innings save a century by Jahurul. The next highest scorer in the team was Sanjamul Islam with 30. The reigning champions were bowled out for a disappointing 239 runs. Chittagong's Yasir Arafat was the main destroyer as he picked up four crucial wickets.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Rangpur slipped to 89 for 5 in just 32 overs. It was a string of late-order partnerships that helped the side recover to 282 for nine by the close. An 86-run partnership between Shuvo and Tarik for the sixth wicket was followed by a 74-run partnership between the latter and Alauddin Babu for the seventh wicket as Rangpur made a strong comeback. Mohammad Sharif and Mosharraf Hossain picked three wickets each.
