Rescue Parag
Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir yesterday directed the law enforcement agencies to take all-out measures to rescue abducted Parag Mondol.
Criminals on November 11 abducted six-year-old Parag shooting his mother, sister and the driver of their car at Shuvadda Paschim Para in Keraniganj.
“Parag will be rescued at any cost. The law enforcement agencies have been asked to take all out measures to this end. It was an isolated incident but the culprits, whoever they might be, will surely be arrested and brought to book,” said the home minister while visiting the Coast Guard headquarters at Agargaon in the capital.
The minister called upon the people to help law enforcers by giving information related to the abduction and requested the opposition to help rescue Parag instead of misleading the nation, reports BSS.
Meanwhile, Nazim Ahmed, editor of weekly Shoptoporno, yesterday filed a petition with the High Court seeking directives on the government to recover Parag and produce him before the court within 24 hours.
According to the petition, law enforcers have failed to discharge their constitutional duty of providing Parag and his family security and recover him [Parag] three days after the abduction.
Secretary to the home ministry, inspector general of police, deputy commissioner of Dhaka, director general of Rapid Action Battalion, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Police Station have been made respondents in the petition.
Receiving the petition, the HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Farid Ahmed yesterday fixed today for hearing the petition, petitioner's counsel Eunus Ali Akond told The Daily Star.
State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Upazila Chairman visited Parag's house at Keraniganj yesterday afternoon. Family sources said they sought prime minister's help through the state minister. In response, Quamrul told them that the premier had been informed about the incident.
Victim's family expressed dissatisfaction over the law enforcers' performance over the last three days. Frustrated, they are not letting in any visitors or journalists inside the house. If anyone knocks on the door, s/he is asked to bring Parag first and then talk to the family.
Officer-in-Charge Shakhawat Hossain of South Keraniganj Police Station and Rab-10 officials said that they were trying to rescue the victim.
