Dhaka, Minsk sign 12 deals
Bangladesh and Belarus yesterday inked seven agreements and five Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) related to investment, agriculture, defence, science and technology, and education.
The deals were signed following an official talks held between the two countries at Prime Minister's Office.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and visiting Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail V Myasnikovich witnessed the signing ceremony at the International Conference Centre (ICC) of the PMO.
The seven agreements signed are: Agreement for Promotion and Protection of Investment; Agreement on Visa Exemption for holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports; Agreement on Cooperation between the Belarus State Centre for Accreditation and Bangladesh Accreditation Board; Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology; Agreement on Military Technical Cooperation; Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Education; and General Agreement for Cooperation between Bangladesh Institute of International Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Centre for International Studies of the Belarus State University.
The five MoUs were signed to strengthen cooperation in legal sphere; for establishment of friendly relation between Minsk and Dhaka; cooperation in agro-industrial manufacturing; quality and safety assurances of export of aquatic biological resources, of objects of aquaculture and of processed products from Bangladesh; and on cooperation between Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
Industries Minister Dilip Barua, State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam, Senior Secretary CQK Mustak Ahmed, Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes, Industries Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and technology Rafiqul Islam, Local Government Division Secretary Abu Alam Shahid, Education Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser, Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Abdul Wadud, President of Bangladesh National Academy of Science Mesbahuddin Ahmed and Director General of BIISS Major General Muhammad Imrul Quayes signed the agreements and MoUs on behalf of Bangladesh.
For Belarus, its Minister of Industries Dmitry Katerinich, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vasily Kazakevich, Deputy Chairman of State Military Industrial Committee Roman Golovchenko, First Deputy Minister of Education Aleksandr Zhuk and Head of the Staff of the National Academy of Science of Belarus Petr Vitiaz of Belarus signed the agreements and MoUs.
