BCB president in the dark
BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon was not clear about what would happen after the tenure of the current executive committee expires later this month.
The tenure of the present committee will expire on November 28 but there has as yet been no initiative taken by the National Sports Council (NSC) about the election of the country's most affluent board. The board is already in default as according to the new constitution the election process must start 45 days before the committee's expiration. Whether the new committee will be an elected one or an interim or ad-hoc committee will be decided by the NSC.
“Actually I'm not clear about what will happen next. I talked with legal experts and will hopefully get their feedback within the next two-three days while I will also talk with NSC by next Sunday,” said Papon yesterday at the BCB's headquarters in Mirpur.
“Everything now depends on NSC but one thing I want to make sure is that we will progress according to the law so that we don't face any legal complications in the future,” he added.
He however hinted that he will love to see the present organisers running the show after the expiration of the present committee's tenure.
“I would not mind if this current committee gets an extension but it may set a bad precedent. On the other hand, if there is an interim or ad-hoc committee the personnel would not be much different from the current committee, but as I said everything is in the hands of the NSC,” opined Papon.
