Doctors in Bogra continue strike
Sufferings of patients mounted as doctors at all government and private hospitals in the district continued work abstention for the second day yesterday.
The Bangladesh Medical Association, Bogra unit announced a 4-day work abstention from Tuesday to protest attack on a doctor by a relative of a patient who died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital (SZRMCH).
Hakim Alam, 43, of Dublagari area in Shajahanpur upazila said, his father was suffering from acute respiratory disease. But no doctor at SZRMCH attended him from Tuesday, Hakim said.
Sabina Yasmin, 35, wife of Jahangir Alam of Atmul area in Shibgonj upazila said they admitted their only son Arif, 5, to the Mohammad Ali Hospital for viral urine infection yesterday but got no treatment.
"We are poor and landless. So we have no ability to take our son to any private clinic", Sabina said.
The work abstention by the doctors began at 8.00am on Tuesday and it will continue till Friday evening.
BMA leaders said, police must arrest all the seven people who assaulted the doctor. Police so far arrested three people in connection with the incident.
BMA secretary Dr Rezaul Alam Jewel said, district and police administration will hold a meeting with BMA doctors in the evening to find out a solution.
Our programme will be withdrawn if the talks become fruitful, added the BMA secretary.
Deputy commissioner (DC) of Bogra Sarwar Mahmud told this correspondent that he had discussed the issues with the BMA leaders and hoped that the work abstention would be withdrawn soon.
