Law enforcers still to find reasons
Even after the end of two days' remand of two arrestees yesterday, police were yet to figure out why a schoolgirl and her grandmother were murdered in Sylhet on Saturday.
The law enforcers said Md Tarek, a TV cable service worker, and his friend and colleague Faruque told police during the interrogation that they were not involved in the killing.
The two friends were arrested on Saturday night.
Six-year-old Sadia Akhtar was found strangled and her paternal grandmother, Momena Begum, 70, stabbed dead at their house in suburban Purbo Doloipara Saturday noon.
The killing turned out to be a mystery when it was discovered that nothing got stolen from the house.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Tarek, as, neighbours said, he was seen coming out of the house around 2:30pm, immediately after the killing.
Tarek could not answer why he had visited the house though the cable was not faulty.
On completion of their remand, Tarek and Faruque were sent to jail yesterday.
Meanwhile, Sadia's classmates and their guardians formed a human chain in Sylhet city on Tuesday demanding arrest of the killers.
