Welcoming Bashanta in Dhaka
Bashanta Utshab is one of the largest seasonal events of the country. According to the Bangla calendar, it is the first day of spring, and it is celebrated by thousands of young people, both male and female -- welcoming the advent of spring.
Jatiya Bashanta Utshab Udjapan Parishad organised a celebration yesterday in the capital, which included renditions of songs, poetry recitation and dance by renowned artistes of Bangladesh. This is the fourth consecutive time that Banglalink has sponsored this event. Spring is the most attractive season of the year, and girls welcome the arrival of spring on Pahela Falgun wearing yellow saris, while their male counterparts wear yellow panjabi.
The day began with a violin recital by Shiuli Bhattacharya. Joint convenor of Jatiya Bashanta Utshab Udjapan Parishad Kajol Debnath, Shafiuddin Ahmed and Kazi Arif delivered speeches at the event.
Cultural organisations Chhayanaut, Nrityam, Dhriti and Bhabna staged performances at the festival. The programme ended with a vibrant rally.
The second session began in the evening. Paintings by ten eminent and upcoming artistes were on sale. The money would be donated to the underprivileged.
Shihab Ahmad, senior marketing director, Banglalink said, “Banglalink wants to uphold the culture and heritage of Bangladesh. Bashanta Utshab is one of the most important festivals in Bangladesh and Banglalink is proud to be a part of this celebration.”
