Teachers' ultimatum to JU admin

The agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday urged the administration to meet their rest of the demands, including removal of all members of proctorial body by January 28.
They gave the ultimatum to the university administration at a poster display programme on the Shaheed Minar premises.
The teachers displayed posters containing reports, articles, poems and other items published in the newspapers on the murder of Zubair Ahmed, a student of English department, who was beaten to death on January 9 by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists.
The teachers started the agitation following the murder of the student.
The agitating teachers also demanded punishment of former JU proctor Prof Arzu Miah for allegedly attacking the university teachers' association president.
Earlier, on January 16, Prof Arzu stepped down amid the agitation by this group of teachers and students protesting the murder of Zubair.
“We want to give the administration another seven days to meet rest of the demands,” Prof Nasim Akter Hossain said vowing non-stop movement until their demands are realised.
Following the death of Zubair, violence erupted on JU campus disrupting the academic activities for a week. However, things turned to be normal after the resignation of Prof Arzu.
