300 textbooks seized, 2 held

Police yesterday seized 300 textbooks from a waste paper shop at Jaygirhat in Mithapukur upazila and arrested two people.
The arrestees are Mahbubar Rahman,40, son of late Abdus Saki of Alipur village, and Shahab Uddin, 38, son of late Abdul Jalil of Abdullahpur village in the upazila, police said.
The two brought the textbooks meant for students of classes V-X from Jadabpur Dhakhil Madrasa. On information, police rushed there, seized the books and arrested the two, Mithapukur Police Station officer in-Charge Arman Hossain said.
The arrestees confessed to police that the madrasa superintendent sold the books with the help of a peon, the OC added.
The madrasa superintendent could not be contacted despite several attempts. A case was filed Mithapukur Police Station under Special Powers Act.
