Ban leaves for Bangkok
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon left Dhaka for Bangkok yesterday ending his four-day official visit to Bangladesh.
A special aircraft carrying the UN chief left the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8.50am for Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.
Health Minister Prof Dr A F M Ruhal Haque, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Ambassador At Large M Ziauddin and Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Dr Abdul Momeen and high civil and military officials saw the UN chief off at the VVIP tarmac of the airport.
Ban Ki-moon along with his wife Ban Soon-Taek arrived in Dhaka on the first leg of his three-nation official visit on Sunday that takes him to Thailand and Indonesia.
In Dhaka, he passed hectic days as he attended various programmes in the city and Moulvibazar apart from holding meetings with the prime minister, leader of the opposition, finance minister and foreign minister.
During his stay in Bangladesh, the UN chief joined the inaugural session of the Climate Change Forum-2011, briefing session on Bangladesh's contribution to UN Peacekeeping Operations, attended a public speaking event organised by the University of Dhaka where he was conferred honorary doctor of law degree.
