UK Minister O'Brien in city

UK International Development Minister Stephen O'Brien arrived in Dhaka yesterday on a three-day visit to explore Bangladesh's progress in reproductive, maternal and newborn health and discuss the challenges ahead.
During his first official visit to Bangladesh, O'Brien, who is the UK's Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development, will meet government leaders and officials, development partners and non-government organisations.
“He will reaffirm the UK's commitment to help Bangladesh reduce child and maternal mortality and achieve faster progress on nutrition,” said a British High Commission press release yesterday.
The UK, through DFID, is the largest bilateral grant donor in Bangladesh and has set ambitious goals for its support to the country over the next four years.
O'Brien will visit a range of innovative UK-funded projects in Rangpur and Dhaka.
On his arrival in Bangladesh, the British minister reaffirmed the UK's commitment to working with the government, donors, private sector and NGOs to improve reproductive, maternal health and nutrition in Bangladesh.
