Madrasa students mark 89pc pass rate

For six straight years, Madrasa Education Board has topped the success charts among the ten education boards with 89.57 percent pass rate in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.
Last year, the pass rate of the board was 86.55 percent.
A total of 77,215 examinees-- 31,530 of them female-- took the examinations. Of them, 68,086 passed in the Alim examinations under the Madrasa Board this year. Male students have performed slightly better securing 89.73 percent pass rate while the pass rate of female students is 89.34 percent.
Of those passed, 4,276 examinees including 1,285 females scored GPA-5. Last year, the number of GPA-5 holders under this board was 2,957.
A total of 682 madrasas, down from 546 last year, obtained 100 percent success rate. Three madrasas have failed to produce any success.
In overall performance, Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa in Dhaka ranked number one while Jhalokathi NS Kamil Madrasa and Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa in Tongi of Gazipur secured the second and third positions under this board.
Meanwhile, the Technical Education Board also witnessed a slight increase in the pass rate which stands at 84.05 percent.
Out of 62,654 examinees, 52,662 students-- 21,403 female-- passed the examinations. Of those passed, 728 students including 341 female achieved GPA-5. Only 202 students secured GPA-5 under the board last year.
Abeda Noor Business Management Institute in Comilla ranked top under the Technical Education Board.
Out of 735 expelled students this year, 107 are of Madrasa Board and 181 of Technical Board.
