Azam Khan recalled in Rajshahi
Pop legend Azam Khan was recalled at a citizens' condolence meeting in Rajshahi city on Friday evening.
Speakers at the meeting demanded a state recognition for Azam Khan as they said the “Guru” had pioneered Bangladeshi pop music, a new trend, during the post-Liberation War period.
They mourned the passing away of the legendary musician and said that Khan fought for the country's freedom and secured his iconic position among people through music.
They said that the trendsetter always advocated the peoples' cause through cultural practice and will be remembered forever for his role in inspiring generations.
Organised by Rajshahi Press Club, the meeting was held at an open stage at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point in the city.
Shahin Akhtar, a social activist and Rajshahi city mayor's wife, addressed the meeting as chief guest. Rajshahi Press Club vice-president Golam Sarwar chaired the event.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner M. Obaidullah; Rajshahi University teacher A.N.M. Saleh; writer Waliur Rahman Babu and Rajshahi Press Club general secretary Saidur Rahman, among others, spoke at the meeting.
