Pro-AL, BNP-backed lawyers stage demonstrations on SC premises
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Khandker Mahbub Hossain yesterday said people would not accept outgoing Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque as head of the next caretaker government.
If Justice Khairul dreams of being the chief adviser of next caretaker government, he is mistaken, as there are a number of allegations against him, he said.
He was presiding over a meeting organised by SCBA, dominated by pro-BNP lawyers, at its South Hall. They were protesting appointment of Justice Md Muzammel Hossain as the new chief justice, passing over his senior Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman, another Appellate Division judge.
SCBA yesterday hoisted black flags at its premises in protest against this appointment.
Meanwhile, ruling Awami League backed lawyers under the banner Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad (SASP) yesterday urged pro-BNP lawyers not to observe programmes like hoisting black flags at SCBA, in order to protect the environment and image of Supreme Court.
They made the appeal at a press conference at North Hall of SCBA at the same time.
Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam, SASP convener, told the media at the press conference that a vested quarter is creating different issues to create another situation similar to 1/11 in the country.
