Natore road crash kills 5
At least six people, including a university student, were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Natore, Satkhira and Dinajpur yesterday.
Our correspondent from Natore reports: Five people were killed and 12 others injured as a bus and a truck collided head-on at Lathuria in Baraigram upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Shamim Hossain, 28, son of Abdur Rashid of Jhenidah; Shahdat Hossain Rana, 23, a student of World University of Dhaka and son of Abdur Razzak of Chourhas custom moor area in Kushtia Sadar upazila; Tasir Uddin, 30, son of Shahadat Hossain of village Maheshpur under Shailokupa upazila in Jhenidah; Parvez Alam, 40, son of late Isahaq Ali of village Jhalutala under Sherpur Sadar upazila and Habil Uddin, 45, son of Meser Ali of village Mamunsia under Jhenidah Sadar upazila.
Din-e-Alam, officer-in-charge of Bonpara Highway Police, said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus from Jhenidah collided head-on with a Rajshahi-bound truck on the Bonpara-Hatikumrun highway at about 2:30am, leaving five bus passengers dead on the spot.
The injured were rushed to Natore Sadar Hospital and different local hospitals.
Later, three of them, including driver and helper of the truck, were shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Our correspondent from Satkhira adds: A madrasa student was killed in a road accident at village Kashipur in Tala upazila yesterday.
The dead was identified as Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad, 17, son of Sheikh Abdur Rahman of village Kashipur.
Quoting local people police said Azad, a student of Kashipur Madrasa, lost his control over the steering of an engine van while he was trying to drive it and hit a tree near his house leaving him injured seriously early in the morning. Local people rushed Azad to Satkhira Sadar hospital in critical condition. He was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) as his condition deteriorated, hospital sources said. He succumbed to his injuries at KMCH at about 2:00pm.
Our correspondent from Dinajpur says: Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Birampur upazila, his driver and a former municipality chairman were injured critically in a road accident in Birampur upazila yesterday.
Md Abul Khayer Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, UNO of Birampur, his driver Md Abdul Halim and Md Akkas Ali former chairman of Birampur municipality.
The injured were rushed to Birampur Health Complex.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when a speedy tractor hit the jeep of UNO.
Police seized the tractor but the driver and helper however managed to escape.
